Host institutions
UAI 2024 is hosted by the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC-UPF), and the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS-UPF), both from Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
About BSE. The Barcelona School of Economics (founded in 2006 as the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics) is a private foundation and a University Research Institute attached to the UPF and to the UAB. The founder and first chair of the board was Andreu Mas-Colell.
BSE’s mission is to promote the creation and transmission of frontier knowledge in Economics and related disciplines.
We aim to consolidate Barcelona as a world-class center of research, academic education, and professional training, with the ultimate goals of informing policy and promoting economic and social well-being.
About DTIC-UPF. The Department of Information and Communication Technologies of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (DTIC-UPF) was created 25 years ago, with the aim of becoming a leading department in the generation of research and advanced training at the crossroads of computational and intelligent systems, multimedia technologies, computational biology and biomedical systems, networks and communication, and brain and cognition.
Nowadays, DTIC-UPF is the only university department working on Artificial Intelligence in Spain recognized as a Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence (2015 and 2021), a selective recognition to the leading research centers in Spain in any field, under the strategic program “Artificial and Natural Intelligence for ICT and beyond”.
About MELIS-UPF. The Department of Medicine and Life Sciences of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (MELIS-UPF) is integrated in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), a leading biomedical research park with more than 100 research groups.
One of the defining features of MELIS-UPF is its wide array of expertise in the life sciences, ranging from experimental, computational and theoretical basic research in biology and bioengineering, to biomedical applications and clinical research. As a result of its research excellence, the Department was recognised as a “María de Maeztu” Unit of Excellence in 2014, and again in 2018.
